"The Republican Party can never again be respected or strong with political 'leaders' like Sen. Mitch McConnell at its helm," Trump said in a statement. "Mitch is a dour, sullen, and unsmiling political hack, and if Republican Senators are going to stay with him, they will not win again." - Trump regrets support - The attack came after McConnell said on Saturday that even though he had voted to acquit Trump at his impeachment trial, the former president was nevertheless "practically and morally responsible

What did Trump’s 2nd impeachment accomplish?

That’s happening Former President Donald Trump was  acquitted  by the Senate on Saturday of the charge that he incited the insurrection on Jan. 6. The impeachment trial ended with 57 senators, including  seven Republicans , finding Trump guilty — well short of the two-thirds majority needed to convict. Over the course of a  week of testimony , House impeachment managers laid out the case that Trump was directly responsible for the deadly assault on the U.S. Capitol carried out by a mob of his supporters. Trump’s attorneys countered by arguing that his baseless claims of election fraud were protected by the First Amendment and that the Senate lacked the constitutional authority to convict a president who was no longer in office. Several GOP senators cited the latter argument in explaining their decision to acquit. Senate Minority Leader  Mitch McConnell  said Trump was “practically and morally responsible” for the violence at the Capitol in a scathing speech following the final vote,

Trump Impeachment Trial Opens With Debate Over Senate's Power

WASHINGTON—House Democratic impeachment managers alleging that Donald Trump incited an insurrection at the Capitol were set to clash with defense lawyers Tuesday over whether a president can be tried after leaving office. The first session in the second impeachment trial of Mr. Trump will feature presentations from both sides over the Senate’s authority to hear the case, followed by a vote on the matter, which requires a simple majority and is expected to pass in the Democratic-controlled chamber. The measure is expected to draw some Republican votes, as five GOP senators, including Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah and Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, have previously sided with Democrats on a question related to the constitutionality of trying the former president. he House voted to impeach Mr. Trump last month, alleging he encouraged the mob that stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 as part of a last-gasp effort to overturn President Biden’s election victory. Lookout Mountain, Georgia, US   — As Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene faces bipartisan   condemnation   for her unapologetic embrace of conspiracy theories, her supporters back home say she is doing what they sent her to Washington to do. “She went to Washington to take a stand for the American people. We’re proud of her,” said Dianne Putnam, chair of the Republican Party in Georgia’s Whitfield County.  “We love her. We voted her in. We stand with her. Greene’s district, comprising 12 counties tucked into the northwest corner of Georgia, is home to some of the state’s most conservative voters. Although Georgians statewide supported Democrat Joe Biden for president and awarded Democrats with two Senate seats, the counties in Greene’s district overwhelmingly supported Donald Trump and Republicans. Trump made multiple visits to this Republican stronghold, both during his re-election campaign and to support the Republican candidates in the Senate runoff elections last month
